The modernization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is crucial for their survival and growth. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for digitalization, all to address unforeseen challenges through the use of advanced technologies.
It is in this context that the Spanish government has launched the Kit Digital Consulting program, a pioneering initiative designed to promote the digital transformation of SMEs in Spain.
With a budget of 300 million euros, the Digital Consulting Kit’s main objective is to provide SMEs with the specialized advice they need to apply digital technologies that improve their competitiveness and productivity.
In this article, we will explore in detail what the Digital Consulting Kit is, who can benefit, and whether it is worth accessing this program.
What is the Digital Consulting Kit?
Kit Consulting is an aid program launched by the Government of Spain with the aim of promoting the digital transformation of SMEs. This program offers subsidies that reach up to 24,000 euros, intended for companies with between 10 and 250 employees.
The amount of aid varies depending on the size of the company. For SMEs with between 10 and less than 50 employees, the bonus amounts to 12,000 euros.
Now, those companies that have between 50 and less than 100 employees can receive up to 18,000 euros, while companies with between 100 and less than 250 workers can access the maximum aid of 24,000 euros.
The objective of the Consulting Kit is for SMEs to allocate these funds to hire advice in key areas for digital transformation. These areas include artificial intelligence, data analysis (basic and advanced), digital sales, among other aspects.
Why apply the Digital Consulting Kit?
Applying the Digital Consulting Kit is a strategic decision for any small or medium-sized company (SME) that wants to remain competitive in today’s digital economy.
Digitization not only improves operational efficiency and productivity, but also opens up new market opportunities and allows for a better response to customer demands.
The Kit Digital Consulting program offers specialized advice to help SMEs integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data analytics into their business processes.
This advice is provided by Agents of Change, professionals with experience in digital transformation, which guarantees that the solutions implemented are effective and appropriate to the specific needs of each company.
Legal framework of the Digital Consulting Kit
The main regulatory basis of the Digital Consulting Kit is Order TDF/436/2024, issued on May 10 by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service.
The program is aligned with the Digital Spain Agenda 2026, a national strategy updated in 2022 whose main objective is to promote the digitalization of the country.
It is also linked to the SME Digitalization Plan 2021-2025 and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which outlines a roadmap for post-COVID-19 economic recovery and the modernization of the Spanish economy.
To ensure the correct execution and supervision of this aid, the program follows the regulations of the European Union Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and other relevant regulations such as the General Subsidies Law and its regulations.
Program beneficiaries
To be eligible, a company must have its tax domicile in Spain and be classified as an SME according to the definition set out in Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014. This includes companies that have between 10 and 249 employees.
The program segments SMEs into three categories according to their size:
- Segment A: Companies with between 10 and less than 50 employees.
- Segment B: Companies with between 50 and less than 100 employees.
- Segment C: Companies with between 100 and less than 250 employees.
Each segment is assigned specific aid that varies according to the number of employees, thus allowing a more equitable and effective distribution of resources.
Beneficiary companies must meet certain requirements, such as not being in a crisis situation, being up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations, and not having exceeded the de minimis aid limit.
In addition, beneficiary SMEs must commit to using the funds exclusively to hire digital transformation advisory services provided by Member Digital Advisors.
