Mistral Code was born as an evolution of the open source project Continue, with specific improvements to satisfy corporate demands.

- Codestral is responsible for advanced autocompletion: it not only suggests fragments, but also “fills” logical gaps (fill-in-the-middle), maintaining coherence with the project.
- Devstral performs coding tasks almost autonomously: generates complex components, updates tests and even executes small projects.
- Codestral Embed is used to search and retrieve relevant pieces of code within internal repositories.
- Mistral Medium works as a chat within the IDE, answering queries in natural language without leaving the development environment.
More than 80 languages and extensive understanding
Thanks to its architecture, Mistral Code understands Python, JavaScript, Java, Bash, Swift, Fortran… and reasons about files, Git differences, terminal outputs and open issues.
This translates into a “vibe coding” experience where the assistant knows what the developer needs at all times, reducing the comings and goings between tabs and external forums.

The main advantage lies in data sovereignty and security. Mistral Code supports deployment:

SNCF
SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français) is the French public company responsible for the largest railway network in France and one of the main transport operators in Europe.
SNCF uses the serverless variant of Mistral Code for approximately 4,000 software engineers who maintain and develop its digital platforms, such as ticketing applications, real-time information systems and railway logistics tools.
The adoption of this solution has allowed us to speed up the launch of new functionalities, which translates into a smoother user experience and faster response times for travelers.
In both cases, the ability to configure automatic approvals and generate optimized code according to internal conventions has freed development teams from repetitive manual tasks.
Mistral AI in Europe: A startup on the rise

In March 2025, Mistral OCR arrived, an API that converts PDF documents into Markdown ready to process with AI. Companies with large volumes of invoices, manuals or medical reports can automate the extraction of key information, generate intelligent summaries and accelerate internal audits.
By integrating with other Mistral AI products, OCR facilitates the creation of technical documentation, requirements analysis, and the automatic generation of code examples from specifications.
Perspectives and Challenges
The launch of Mistral Code marks a paradigm shift for the “coding vibe” in corporate environments. However, its success will depend on its large-scale adoption, adherence to emerging regulations, and competition from giants like OpenAI or Meta.
