That 5G technology is already here is more than a fact, although we will still have to wait a little longer to see it one hundred percent in operation. But what is it that differentiates this new generation of mobile phones from the previous one?

Speed

Going from the fourth generation of mobile technology (4G) to the fifth (5G) is going from 200 megabytes per second to 20 gigabytes per second. Translated into our language, it would be like saying that the transition of uploading and downloading content will multiply exponentially thanks to the new connections, making it easier and faster to transfer large amounts of data in just a few seconds.

If we exemplify it in the context of movies, that is to say that a high definition projection that previously took three minutes to download, can now be downloaded in just five seconds of nothing.

According to a study by the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC), downloading an hour-long playlist from Spotify would take half a second compared to the 20 seconds that we previously required in 4G or the seven minutes it took with 3G. Just like downloading a video game, you will only need half a minute compared to the 25 it takes with 4G.

In short, the faster the speed, the easier everything is, or at least that’s what the experts predict.

Content prioritization

5G broadband has the function of knowing how to discern traffic and prioritize it based on needs. That is, between dedicating more or less bandwidth to one thing or another.

Artificial Intelligence

The high speed of data transfer will provide that knowledge capacity can be transferred in real time from the cloud to the user or to other platforms. You could say that whatever is connected will be intelligent, at least for the time it is connected.

Rating

The 5G on mobile will require unlimited data if you want to enjoy it at full capacity.

Teleport

Holograms, something that we saw in fiction films like Star Wars and that seemed like something from a very distant future, will be possible and will allow, for example, face-to-face meetings to be held thousands of kilometers away.

Enabling technology

If 5G allows the creation of new business models in all types of sectors, it will be an indicator that it is working. Leisure, video games, smart cities, virtual reality, augmented reality, 4K content & 8K, are new sections that 5G opens for all those who wish to take advantage of it.

Energy efficiency

The connection requirements of millions of objects could double the current energy consumption of the network, something that 5G manages to avoid thanks to a more precise algorithm and processors. Battery consumption will be 90 percent less than with 4G.

Connectivity

The hyperconnectivity of 5G will be a reality. There will be no possibility of network downtime or collapse. There must be a constant interconnection between objects. Furthermore, connectivity will be reliable, stable and consistent, since otherwise it would be chaos, for anything directly or indirectly related to robotic intelligence and Smartcities.

Capacity

There will be no connection problems or lack of coverage. 5G will be able to connect one million devices per square kilometer at the same time, something that was impossible with 4G. Now it will be possible to supply demand with multiple simultaneous connections.

Responsiveness

The time that elapses from when a connected device gives a command until the first binary response code is received will be increasingly shorter. This advantage will turn out to be something basic both in conferences, as well as in telesurgery, automobile autonomy.)

It is quite clear that expectations regarding this new technology are quite high, now we have to wait if it is actually capable of offering us all the solutions and facilities that society demands or if we will have to wait for a new technological revolution.
