Yesterday the XIII edition of Expodera Live was presented in Malaga (Teatro Echegaray). A program that aims to bring together 250 experts and world leaders who are focused on offering a comprehensive vision of how the social use of technology can help achieve the global challenges that today’s society demands.
The event, which runs until noon today, has as its central theme “Civic technology in the face of global challenges”. And, in addition, this edition has speakers such as the coordinator of the World Information Society Summit (WSIS), Gitanjali Sah; the president of the Wikimedia Foundation, María Sefidari; Blockchain‘s head of research, Garrick Hileman; or the co-founder of the Public Digital Innovation Space of the Government of Taiwan, Shuyang Lin, among others.
The mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, assured that “they are proud to contribute to the development of this Congress, which is already an international benchmark.” Furthermore, he added that “the capacity for innovation between civil society and companies can provide answers to the great challenges”, clarifying that these projects are the pillars to sustain “the social innovation ecosystem of the present and the future.”
The key topics to be discussed among experts, through conferences and interviews, focus on Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, three-dimensional (3D) printing or quantum supercomputing.
On the other hand, the president of the Cibevoluntarios Foundation, Yolanda Rueda, made reference to the High Commissioner for the Agenda 2030, stating that this event “is an opportunity “magnificent for sharing international projects, which aim to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
The WSIS Coordinator also wanted to address a few words to the public, focusing on the potential of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to guide sustainable development. Sah clarified that “rural connectivity in the villages has allowed economic growth,” but despite this he reported that half of the population still does not have access to the Internet, and therefore, he assured that we must “collaborate, coordinate and cooperate” to materialize the set objectives.
The group of speakers makes this edition of Empodera Live a must-see event to discover the new advances in social innovation. Furthermore, the novelty this year is that they have added civic verses, that is, through tweets a poetic summary of each session is made. It is also broadcast live for all those who cannot attend, through the website www.empoderaLIVE.org, thanks to the collaboration of Agoranews.
Empodera Live is organized by the Cibervoluntarios Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security, the Málaga City Council, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and the Cifal Málaga Association.
The Fundación Cibervoluntarios is a non-profit entity made up of social entrepreneurs who have come together with the aim of promoting the use and knowledge of new technologies, as a means to alleviate social gaps, generate social innovation and promote citizen empowerment.
