The city of Malaga has not only stood out in recent years for its wide tourist offer, concentrated above all in the city center with the cultural “boom” promoted by museums, but it also stands out nationally for being one of the provinces that hosts a large number of technology companies and hundreds of small and medium-sized companies companies (SMEs) that decide to settle in business incubators and continue with their expansion and economic growth.
According to the latest data compiled by the non-banking financing company of Spain (Infocic), the more than seventy companies that lead the turnover ranking in Malaga, presented global sales of more than six thousand three hundred million euros.
A clear example of this trend of economic growth is reflected in the exponential development of the Andalusian Technology Park(PAT), which houses a total of 646 installed companies, maintaining a stable number in recent years.
This objective of increasing the job offer is quite pretentious as well as real, since large multinationals such as Accenture, Oracle or Ericsson are based in the park.
On the other hand, these companies have 19,857 employees, 1,100 more than in 2017 and they seek to reach 20,000 in the coming years. One of the most notable characteristics is that approximately 34 percent of the workers belong to international companies, promoting the contextualization of the PTA in the international framework.
In relation to this, information technology is the field to highlight since it represents 57% of the turnover of the technological complex and constitutes 55% of the workers.
The general director of the PTA, Felipe Romera, told the media that the future lies in the commitment of firms to disruptive technology, such as cybersecurity, Big Data or the Block Chain.
The turnover of the technology park reached two billion and eighty million euros last year, around seven percent more than in 2017. According to Romera, the park’s objective is to house more than 50,000 workers in the coming decades. And he also clarified that it is something that would be more feasible if all the transportation and mobility problems that affect all workers in the sector were resolved.
Without a doubt, the PTA has a great opportunity in front of it to become the complex national leader of the technology companies of tomorrow.
