Instagram Stories has 400 million daily users, and the executives and owners of this network have noticed that the Stories format can become the main social exchange platform, surpassing the news service… how can I get them to see my Instagram stories?
Perhaps more important is how do stories fit into your digital marketing strategy? The question is not unnecessary because you have to know how to use social networks for business. Of course, stories are a very different animal since it is a relatively new and different format to master, what guide could we follow?
The team at Delmondo, a social analytics company, has focused specifically on the study of the Stories format, developing the industry standard for reporting both vertical video and story performance
STORY SCOPE
The average reach rate for Instagram Stories is approximately 7.2% of your followers, with significant variations depending on your industry. This means that if you have 1,000 followers, your stories will be seen by around 72 of them.
Delmondo also notes that the average reach rate for regular Instagram posts is approximately 3 times higher than the stories audience.
Instagram has more than one billion active users, and less than half of them use stories, and it must be taken into account that these disappear 24 hours after being published
STORY LENGTH
How do I get them to see my stories? Do I make them from a single frame? Or from several? Delmondo’s data suggests that short stories work best, but long ones can also bring good results. Completion rates are highest for stories ten frames or less, but completion rates are fairly stable, even for stories between 21 and 40 frames long
This finding could be relevant in event stories, where viewers can be given a full perspective. If you can’t capture all the relevant information within the ideal ten-frame benchmark, you can go longer; this doesn’t mean there will be a decline in viewership.
ENGAGEMENT
According to Delmondo: ¨We discovered that on average there are more people who abandon in the first frame than any other part of the story. To keep watching, these people have to be hooked. This means that your frame is boring or repetitive, most of your audience won’t even see the rest.
You should consider your first frame as a hook to attract viewers and keep them watching more.
THE BEST TIME TO PUBLISH
Is there really an ideal schedule? The real answer is that ¨it depends.¨ It depends on your brand, your niche, your audience: the factors that will really determine your best time to post will be specific to your account, and you can only determine them correctly through trial and error.
But if you want general guidelines, what Delmondo’s research tells us: late night to very early morning sees the best completion rates
Why is that? Less people posting means less content for users to see, plus users check their phone in the mornings when they wake up and at night to relax, so the chances of your posts standing out are much higher.
CONTENT STORIES
Contents with influencers and interactive content are the best, highlighting surveys, flipbooks and even taking advantage of the format in a playful way.
Hiring influencers doesn’t mean you’ll get Yuya to promote your business, right… but what about if you think about micro-influencers? But they do provide some good pointers about the types of content to consider, which will allow viewers to stick around and see more of your frames.
These are just some of the notes included in the Delmondo full report, which can be downloaded for free, and if you want to delve deeper, you can also see the latest Instagram market study with very current data from the network.
